About Margot Silk Forrest

Margot Silk Forrest has been doing arts and crafts since she was a little kid stealing her mother's linen napkins and blisteringly red nail polish to make baby dolls. She sews clothing and home decor items, does quilting, and makes jewelry for her own pleasure.

The first piece of wearable art she created (a restyled batik-trimmed sweatshirt with decorative stitching, piping, stenciling and fabric appliques) won admission to a major wearable-art fashion show, held in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Her first pair of luminously painted and beaded sandals were accepted for publication in Altered Couture 2, a special issue from the publishers of Belle Armoire, a glossy magazine showcasing one-of-a-kind, handmade fashions and wearable-art projects. The publishers also used her 'Shimmering Sandals' in a full-page magazine ad for Altered Couture 2.

Three pairs of painted and embellished shoes by Margot and her colleague, Destiny Carter, were chosen this year for the highly competitive Wearable Expressions 2008 exhibit and sale in Palos Verdes, CA.

Margot teaches classes in painting and embellishing shoes in the Bay Area and at craft and sewing conventions. She also runs a custom bridal shoe business, Silk Forrest Bridal Shoes, from her home in Morro Bay, CA.

In addition to being an artisan and shoe designer, Margot is the author of three books, the most recent of which is A Short Course in Kindness: A Little Book on the Importance of Love and the Relative Unimportance of Just About Everything Else. It is available from the Sassy Feet Store.
