How Much to Buy?

When you are buying ribbon, trim, or piping, you’ll usually need just one yard per pair of shoes. This amount is enough to use around the throat of your shoe (the opening where your foot slides in) or the top of a knee-high boot, or to add a typical ankle tie or replace boring laces. Exceptions are ankle ties that wrap more than twice (get 2 yards), shoes larger than size 10 (get 1¼ yards for the throat of the shoe or top of the boot) and anything you fall in love with (get as much as you can afford!).
