Sassy Feet Shoes in Prestigious Wearable Art Exhibition!

Three pairs of painted and embellished shoes by Margot and her colleague, Destiny Carter, were chosen this year for the highly competitive Wearable Expressions 2008 exhibit and sale in Palos Verdes, CA.

Glitterati

These ankle-strap pumps were originally black and cost $4 at a thrift store. We painted them in five shades of Glitter It!, our own non-shedding glitter paint, then embellished them with metallic silver lace and hand-rolled roses, which we made from silk charmeuse that we hand-dyed to match the glitter.

Poetry in Motion

These thrift-store platform mules ($3) with what are now called "architectural heels" were painted, trimmed with natural and dyed guinea feathers, stretch glitter trim, and silver “branches.” Then the suede insole was dyed black and hand-lettered in silver with poetry by Emily Dickinson. Lastly, the cylindrical opening in the heel was painted with blue sky and clouds, and a bird (sculpted and hand-painted by Destiny) was dangled from the top of the heel.

Urban Valentine

These boots of manmade material, originally brown with rather ugly front lacing, cost $39 new. We painted them black and covered the heel area with our own Really Red glitter paint (available in our store). Then we appliquéd over the lacing holes with black-on-black brocade and black leather, covered the tongue with crimson lace and hung two different gauges of chain mail from the side and from the toe.; The final touch was a cast-silver rose crowing the toe.
